Veiled by Desire: A Laith Novel Publication Date: November 19, 2019 Genre: Fantasy Publisher: The Parliament House Press In Laith, when the moons are high, Tavarra is allowed to walk the land as a human for one day, losing her seahorse-like tail. But should she remain out of the water, a curse will overtake her, turning her into a beast with sharp fangs and long claws. A beast that, on some nights, takes the shape of a rampaging, uncontrollable monster. Rhona, along with her village, are under a sinister leader’s control. Their leader has taken Rhona from the boy she loves, stripped away her abilities and, under the threat of killing everyone she loves, forces her on a dangerous task to retrieve a dark prism that will increase his already massive powers. When Tavarra and Rhona cross paths, they discover they need each other. Rhona knows how to help the cursed sea creature, while Tavarra knows where to find the dark prism. They embark on a mission that could help them break Tavarra’s spell and save Rhona’s family and village. But with an untamable beast inside Tavarra, nothing is certain.., Add to Goodreads

Excerpt

Seven years of this. Tavarra closed her eyes and gripped the chains around the tree that bound her wrists together. She howled with urgency, screamed, and bared her fangs. As she stared up at the twin moons in the darkening sky, she knew her fate was coming. A fire spread throughout her entire body with a wicked touch, and she shook violently. “The chains will hold this time,” her friend Eza said, landing on Tavarra’s shoulder. If Tavarra killed the pesky bat, there would be nothing, no one, and she had grown to love Eza after all these years. “Get out of here, Eza! Now!” Tavarra screamed. “I’ll be right here,” the bat murmured and flew up into the tree above. Eza looked incredibly similar to a fairy except for the thin blackened wings, fangs, and sharper-pointed ears. She was a little taller than the size of Tavarra’s hand from wrist to the tip of the claw on her middle finger. Tavarra was trying to fight the change. She would win this time. As she breathed in the scents of Laith, Tavarra knew it was a lie, and indeed, she knew she’d failed when her skin began to stretch. She could feel her face taking on a new shape, and that was when the terror came because the night would be unknown to her. That was what haunted her the most. Tavarra held back the tears, unwilling to break, unwilling to bend and show weakness. All that remained in her soul, heart, and existence, was hunger. She yearned and thirsted for blood, meat, and bones.

Excerpt

Abby A chorus of agreement rings out around the room as everyone, unanimously, confirms their support. Adrenaline courses through my veins, and I just know this is it. The pivotal moment where everything changes. Where the power shifts and the people in this room are primed to take back control. I cast a glance over everyone again, and powerful emotion swims up my throat. Before, the guys were fond of tossing out sentiments that they would kill for me or take a bullet for me, and I was skeptical. Especially when everyone in this room has betrayed me in some way. But that’s in the past. Because I look at them now, and I know it’s the truth. I know they are in this with me. That they want this as badly as me, and they will do whatever it takes to help me reclaim control over my life. It’s a surreal feeling. To know I have such a formidable group of guys standing behind me, watching my back, and supporting my decisions. The feeling of empowerment is incredible. Indescribable. And exactly what I need to get me through the weeks and months ahead. It’s not going to be easy, especially the part I have designated to play. But I know I’m up for the challenge with my crew at my side. We will make it happen. This time, the bastard is going down. And there will be no getting back up.

HoldingontoForever_ecover NEW SPELLING

ADAM

Returning to my drug-dealing past wasn’t on the agenda when I accepted the full ride to play ball at Cypress U. But Mom lost her job. And my sister’s medical bills are mounting. So, I’ve no choice but to change the playbook.

When Emily walks into my life, like a fallen goddess with the ultimate power to destroy me, I know I’m screwed. I should steer clear, but I’m the one supplying her poison of choice. Falling for her is a complication I don’t need, but the more she’s around, the harder it gets to walk away. She needs me, and I crave her more than the sport I love.

Now, it’s all on the line. Including the NFL career that’s tantalizingly close.

The stakes are high, but family means everything, so I’ll take my chances.

EMILY

It’s only a problem if it’s out of control. And I have it in hand.

Except a certain a-hole discovers I’m using again, and he threatens to rat me out to my folks. Mom’s president of Cypress U, and Dad’s the illustrious football coach. Appearances mean everything to them, and I’m a continuous disappointment.

They told me I’d be out on my ass if I fell off the wagon, so keeping it a secret is my number one priority.

Until the super-hot all-star QB takes more than a passing interest in me. Adam gets me, in a way no guy ever has, filling my head with ideas of forever—and now, I want more.

Dating my dealer is a recipe for disaster, especially when it’s forbidden, but I can’t help myself.

Because I’ve fallen too deep.

And the hole is too large to crawl out of.

Excerpt:

I’m half-tempted to call Donnie to make sure he gave me the correct address when headlights brighten the narrow alleyway. The SUV is crawling toward me, and my nerves are jacked. I shouldn’t be doing this. I should find a decent part-time job to pay for my sister’s medical expenses, but I see no other way. We have to get her vest fixed or buy a new one. Selling drugs is the only way to make some quick cash. Besides, I’m good at it. I sold dope and pills for years, and I’d never been arrested. I always had my pulse on the neighborhoods, and I knew where cops loitered at night. You’ve been out too long. Things might have changed, and you’re in a new state. I push my inner thoughts aside. None of that matters. I’m always alert. I always know what’s around me, and as Mom tells me, I’m perceptive as hell. I have to be. Taking care of Mom and Phoebe—especially Phoebe—I have to be alert to her sounds, her breathing, and her emotions. Thinking of my sister sends pain slicing through my chest. I can’t let anything happen to her. She spent two days in the hospital, where the doctor pumped her with antibiotics, until she started feeling better. The SUV pulls to a stop, and a short stocky guy gets out of the front passenger seat brandishing a gun. The driver, a taller man than his compadre, follows. I lift my hands as if a cop is arresting me. “I’m unarmed.” Aiming the gun at my head, he stalks toward me. His dark eyes are hard, his mission resolute. “Move and you’re dead.” His deep voice is lethal. An all too familiar wave washes over me, and I’m tempted to back out of this stupid idea to sell drugs and run before he pulls the trigger. I’m not any good dead to Mom and Phoebe. But I know his words are just a scare tactic while he frisks me. I stand statue-still while the second dude, sporting a thin beard and no mustache, pats my sides, my lower back, down my legs, and straight down to my ankles. He sticks one finger in the air. “All clear.” The stocky dude lowers his gun, and, inwardly, I grin. The goon didn’t find the blade in my boot. I’m not about to use it though. But I don’t walk into situations like these unarmed. Still, I make a mental note of the type of men I’m dealing with. A tall man climbs out of the back seat. He’s sporting baggy jeans and a New York Yankees ball cap, and the gold bling around his neck probably weighs ten pounds as it glints off the dim light on the side of the car repair shop. It’s all I can do not to roll my eyes. Donnie doesn’t show off like this dude. Donnie’s motto is blend in with the crowd. Standing out only draws attention. “You must be Wrangler. I’m Ray Diaz.” Ray struts over to the metal garage door. “You understand I have to be careful.” He punches a code in on the keypad tacked to the frame of the door. Within a second, it opens. I tuck my hands in my jean pockets. “I’m well aware of the industry.” A deep chuckle erupts from Ray. “I heard. Donnie told me you were a cocky punk too.” It’s my turn to laugh. “When I need to be.”

What are the top ten places you love to visit and why?

My favorite place is at home in quiet Española, New Mexico, with my wonderful bed within close walking distance and the best little writing room/library a girl could ask for, but I’ll give this a shot!

In no particular order:

The Singapore Night Zoo, for obvious reasons. It’s the best zoo in the world, with the possible exception of Australia Zoo (still on my wish list). Happy animals, and you don’t have to get sunburnt if you’re unfortunately pasty. The food is excellent, the entertainment beyond compare, you can spend all night there and still not get tired of it!

Shinjuku Gyoen National Park in Tokyo, Japan. This place is absolutely breathtaking. Period. It will transport you back in time and heal your soul.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Manhattan, NY. There is no better place to feel inspired, awed, and unworthy as an artist all at once!

Boston’s Catholic Churches. And they smell fantastic! Who knew myrrh was so wonderful?

El Yunque National Forest, Puerto Rico. I mean, it’s Puerto Rico, for God’s sake! Rain forest, waterfalls, climbing moss-covered little stone steps through gorgeous foliage. It’s a freakin’ paradise!

Bologna, Italy. I mean, c’mon! It’s ITALY! Wandering down tiny deserted alleyways, choosing from your choice of fifty-million restaurants when you get hungry, gorging your eyes on ancient buildings and art that boggle the mind—there’s nothing like it!

Fort Bahadurgarh, Police Commando Training Center, Patiala, Punjab. You have to get permission to check out this ruin of a fort, but it is truly AWESOME! The fort portion is completely deserted, and falling into ruin, but definitely worth seeing—especially if you enjoy a creepy, haunted experience.

Tian Tan Buddha at Ngong Ping, on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. Peaceful excellence. Especially the training complex and temple. Gorgeousness unmatched.

Anandpur Sahib, Punjab, India. Up in the mountains past the cities, away from the crowds and pollution, this green, peaceful town is the place to feel inspired, connected, at one with your soul.

Cemeteries. I like cemeteries. Santa Fé has some beautiful ones to visit. Hong Kong, Boston—I’d love to go to New Orleans someday and see theirs. The older and more deserted, the better.

Review:

Holy smokes this book! I was sucked in from the very beginning and couldn’t stop until the last page. Even then I have found myself thinking of the book and wanting to go re-read it to get into the story all over again.

From the beginning I felt an intense draw to both Brenik and Bray. I loved that the book is split into the POV of them both so you get to understand what is going on while they are apart. The sibling combo will pull out all sorts of emotions in you, including fear, suspense, love, negativity, hope, romance, and more.

If you are looking for a book that will pull out the best and worst of your feelings (in a good way, I promise) this book is for you. The plot is amazing and makes you not able to stop reading. There is so much that goes on that you can’t help but turn each page to find out what is going to happen next. There are some crazy twists put into the story that makes you gasp out loud and try to rein in yourself from the storm that is brewing in your soul. This book will be put into my favorites and I will be rereading this for the rest of my life!

Review — Courtside Crush

Courtside Crush

Author: Kayla Tirrell

Release Date: February 12, 2019

Pages: 223

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis:

So much for senior year being the best part of high school.

It all started when I caught my boyfriend cheating on me.
I did what any girl would do—I got revenge. Of course, it didn’t stop there. Thanks to a condemning video, I also got eight weeks of community service and athletic probation right before basketball season is supposed to start. (There goes my spot as captain!)

Thankfully, there’s a guy at Marlowe Junction’s Helping Hands who makes passing the time more enjoyable. He’s gorgeous, funny, and a huge basketball fan.
Too bad he’s also my brother’s biggest enemy…

Courtside Crush is a modern-day retelling of Romeo and Juliet, perfect for anyone who likes their sweet romance with a dash of drama. It is the first book in the Varsity Girlfriends series.

Review:

I devoured this book as quick as I could, even with work and life getting in the way I managed to get it finished in 2 sittings. It was amazing. I love the Romeo and Juliet take on the book and even how it is worked within the pages. You will have to read it to find out how it ends though 🙂

I couldn’t help loving Jackson from the start. Even when all the drama comes out I stood by his side as I flipped through each page. I found myself wanting to yell at Charlie but I understand it’s hard when there are other factors involved that can really upset someone that is really close to you. The budding romance was so adorable I found myself smiling to the point my cheeks hurt. Also the banter between them was enough to make me literally laugh out loud and get weird looks from my other half.

This book is set in a mainly a high school but you also get some outside settings of houses and community service locations. I loved getting to follow Charlie around to get more wonderful pictures of her and Jackson into my head.

This is a clean romance but it will still leave you with the warm fuzzies as you read through each page. It was so sweet I couldn’t help but devour it and love each and every chapter I went through. I found my emotions on a rollercoaster ride needing to know what happens next and I know you all will too!

Catastrophe Queen, an all-new hilarious office romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart is available now!

cq-cover3.3

It’s not you. It’s me.

No, seriously. It is me. Not only does my name literally mean “unfortunate,” but that’s the story of my life.

Everything I touch turns to cr*p. An apartment fire—that I swear I was not responsible for—means I’m living back at home with my s*x-mad parents. Yay, me!

Which is why I need my new job as personal assistant to Cameron Reid to get back on my feet. Three months in this job and I can move back out and, hopefully, remember to turn off my flat iron once in a while.

Ahem.

On paper, my job is easy. Make coffee. Book appointments. Keep everything in order.

Until I walk in on my boss, half-naked, wearing nothing but the kind of tiny white towel that dreams are made of.

Now, nothing is easy—except our mutual attraction. But he’s my boss, and you know what they say about mixing work and pleasure: unless you do p*rn, it’s just not worth it.

Or is it?

Excerpt:

I took my coffee from the counter and scanned the room for an empty table. There wasn’t one, which killed my chances of wasting more time before I went home.

With a sigh, I checked my phone for the time and headed for the door. I was going to end up at home earlier than I’d planned, and I needed to check with my mom to make sure there wasn’t anything kinky happening somewhere in the house.

I’d considered bleaching my eyes enough in the last few weeks, thank you.

I was fairly sure I was safe because my grandfather and great aunt were coming to stay to celebrate Grandpa’s eightieth birthday. It was still a miracle my exhibitionist mother shared DNA with either of them. Unlike her, they were reserved, polite, and didn’t flash their flesh in the hopes of getting out of a speeding ticket.

Really, it was no wonder I was a walking disaster.

I pulled up my messages and clicked on my mom’s name. My thumb was poised to type the burning question of whether or not it was safe to come home when I glanced up.

And saw the car screeching to a stop, mere inches from me.

I screamed and stepped back. My heel caught on the curb, sending me toppling backward, and both my coffee and phone went flying. My cup slammed against the sidewalk, splattering hot liquid everywhere right as I managed to save my phone from certain death by concrete.

My heart was beating so fast it should have exploded, and adrenaline raced through my veins. I gripped my phone against me so tightly that the edges pressed painfully into my skin.

Oh my God.

I’d just almost died.

Maybe slightly dramatic, but I probably wasn’t far wrong. I didn’t even know I’d stepped into the road. When had that happened? Had I really been in that deep into my own little world that I hadn’t even checked for traffic?

Dear God.

How was I still alive?

The back door to the sleek, black car that somehow hadn’t run me over swung open. From my vantage position on the sidewalk, the first thing I saw was a pair of shiny, black shoes attached to legs wearing perfectly-pressed, light gray dress pants.

I dragged my gaze up from the feet, over the door of the perfectly clean car, and stared at the most beautiful man known to humankind.

Thick, dark, wavy hair covered his head, curling over his ears. Lashes the same dark shade of brown framed impossibly bright-blue eyes that regarded me with a mixture of shock and concern, and my ovaries about exploded when he rubbed a large hand over full pink lips and a stubbled, strong jaw.

“Miss—I’m so sorry. Are you okay?”

Scrambling to my feet as he approached me, I tugged down the leg of my pants and grabbed my pursed. “Yes. I mean—it was my fault. I wasn’t paying attention. I’m sorry.”

He let go of the car door, showing broad shoulders and just

how well that gray suit was tailored to him, and picked up my coffee cup. “All the same, I think we can share blame. Are you sure you’re not hurt?”

Just my dignity, and by this point, I was running low on it anyway.

I shifted, taking a step back. “I’m fine, really. Thank you.”

“Can I replace your coffee? Give you a ride anyway to apologize?” His expression was so earnest, his concern so genuine that I almost gave in.

Almost.

I had almost walked into the front of his car, then proceeded to embarrass myself in front of everyone on the street.

“No, no, it’s fine. I’m not far from home.” I clutched my phone and purse straps a little harder. “Again, thank you, but I should be going.”

He nodded as if he understood. “Uh, miss? Did you drop something there?”

My eyes followed the direction Mr. Dreamboat was pointing. On the side of the road, tucked against the curb, was a pair of white, cotton panties with flamingos on them.

My white, cotton panties with flamingos on them.

Swallowing, I met his bright eyes and shook my head. Dear God, please don’t let me blush. “No. I’ve never seen them before.” I backed up a little more. “Thank you for not running me over.”

Mr. Dreamboat grinned, his eyes brightening with his smile. “I’d never be able to forgive myself if I’d been responsible for running over someone as beautiful as you.” He glanced toward my panties, then winked at me.

There was no doubting that I was blushing this time around.

You could fry eggs on my cheeks.

So I did the only thing any self-respecting, twenty-five-year-old woman who’d just almost been run over, tripped, and dropped her dirty panties could do.

I ran.

But only like two blocks, because I was in heels, and I had the fitness levels of a hippo.

Then I grabbed a cab.

Pages: 111

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Synopsis:

After being banished for questioning his own Fate, Reylor spent his years alone beyond the Borderlands, biding his time and honing his skills until the perfect moment to reclaim what he believed was his – the Empress. Through treachery and deceit, he clawed his way back into the Prophecy that all but abandoned him… but he didn’t achieve it alone. With the help of allies new and known, the former Lord Steward will stop at nothing to see to it that both the Empress, and the Empire, remain by his side once and for all.

Review:

I loved Two Thousand Years, so of course I needed to read this right away to get more of this world. I also was very interested to find out more about Reylor and how this all came to be. We all know he went bad but I wanted to see why. I feel I now have a better grasp on him and even though I still find him to be a “bad boy” I also feel there is so many misunderstandings put out there. It is up to you all to figure out what those might be.

I loved this story and am glad I decided to pick it up. You also get more glimpses of Treyan as well within these pages. Even a younger Treyan which will make you smile. I loved getting to know him from a point of view outside of himself or Alex’s POV.

This novella follows Reylor not only in the present time but also in the past to give you a full glimpse of him as a person and how things came to be. Im definitely having my heart stolen by Reylor the more i read one! I loved the flops between the times and having everything come together. I have more questions for this series but the author did a wonderful job of giving us some answers as well as giving us more things to question so we stay fully engaged and waiting impatiently until the next book!

Can they destroy the creature before it’s too late for us all?

Review:

Being someone who has never read Dracula, I still have to say WOW about this book! Even with it being longer, I couldn’t stop myself from read it. I devoured it in a day and a half. I would have gotten it done in a day if life didn’t get in the way. I LOVED every second of it!

The characters are so easy to love from the beginning. The suspense from going through the pages make you want to bite your nails for the character and hope they find a way to all make it out alive. It being a horror I definitely knew something was going to happen but I was never able to guess what the next curveball was going to be.

I found myself feeling bad for Dracula at certain times, but I knew that I shouldn’t and he would prove himself to not be worthy of any of my concern. The author still makes you have doubt about your bad feelings due to her expressive detail of all the moments to make you want to love even the hardest to love creatures. I was happy for the outcome even if it will put tears in your eyes.

As I stated before, I haven’t read Dracula, but now I am scared to read it because this book engrossed me so completely that I don’t think even the classic could compare to my love for this book. The details, characters, and overwhelming suspense and emotions will carry you from page to page and leave you without words when you finish the last page!
